What are your rules about Health & Safety?

  • Please sign your children in and out of the center at the front desk each day.  Teens can sign themselves in and out.  Students cannot be left at the church at the end of the day, and they cannot walk away from the campus.    We have a late pick up fee if children are not picked up by 3:45 on Mon, Tues, Wed, or 5:30 on Thurs.
  • Playing in the front of the church / parking lot is not permitted as there is traffic and we are not set up to watch this area.
  • Using the playground outside is not permitted unless there is a HuckleBerry teacher or volunteer, or the children’s parents in attendance.   If classes are running, only very quiet play is allowed on the playground.
  • Parents need to keep children that have a communicable illness at home.  If children get sick while at HuckleBerry, they will be removed from the class setting and wait in the sitting area for a parent to pick them up.  Please make sure we have your updated phone numbers next to your sign in.
  • Please notify Stephanie or the front desk immediately if your child has any communicable disease like Pink Eye, Strep Throat or Lice.   The other parents need to be notified if this is the case.
  • We can no longer allow dogs or other pets to be brought into the center, although they are welcome to be outside on the grass.
  • Children are not allowed in the kitchen unless they are in a class.

What is going on in my child’s class ? (Or how do I complete my Learning Records?)

  • We have developed a yahoo group called HuckleBerry Homework Pages. This is where you can go to learn about the activities in your child’s class and any homework assignments. Even if there is no homework, these files will tell you about the day’s activities and will also include a syllabus.  These files are updated by Sunday of each week. Please make sure you can access this site for important information about your child’s class!  Contact Elmarie Hyman at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for help accessing these files.
  • There is also a monthly Newsletter that will outline important events, field trips, crazy days and more at the Huck!  Please be sure to read them each month to stay informed, and also look for contests found within the newsletter!

Can I stay at HuckleBerry while my children are in class?

We have a very large lobby with comfortable chairs where parents are welcome to wait for their children.   You may also feel free to set up meetings with your charter school ES at HuckleBerry.  There is frequently an empty room available for meetings.   Please just check with the Front Desk Helper on room availability.
What is the best way of keeping up with what’s going on at Huck?

The newsletter!   If you haven’t subscribed yet, please do so on our website.  We’ll make announcements about all kinds of special events throughout the year in the Newsletter.   There is also a large board at the sign in sheet that will have flyers announcing special events.   Please check it each week!

Scholarships

We now have an active Scholarship account!   For more information, see the Scholarship document on our website www.hucklc.org  under the Classes tab.

What is Study Hall?

Study halls are available for all HuckleBerry students. You must sign up for Study Halls so that we know you are planning on your child being with us. There is a nominal charge of $5/study hall period. Students that are 6th grade or older may utilize our study hall room. This room does not have a supervising adult in it at all times, but is periodically monitored by our Front Desk Helper. Children younger than 6th grade need to stay in the front lobby with our front desk helper.  We ask that children that are in Study Hall bring work or a book to read. If all children in the Study Hall have completed their work, they are welcome to play a game and may borrow from our suite of games if they would like!

Study Hall Room (aka The Couch Room)
Study Hall in The Couch Room is not to be used for homeschooling other children as this is designed as quiet study time for kids ages 12+.   It is designed to be unsupervised.   Our Front Desk person checks on this room periodically.   No Parents Here Please, but there are normally other rooms available for use.   Our front desk person will be able to check the room schedule for you.

When Can I Drop Off and Pick Up?

You can drop off your children  at 8:50  on Wednesday, and at 10:20 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.   Please do not leave your children at the center prior to a HuckleBerry teacher or front desk helper being there.   Students are given 5 minutes in between classes to go to the bathroom, wash hands, and get to their next class.   Feel free to drop off 5 minutes prior to your class start time!     Our last class on each day ends at 3:30, except on Thursday when we end at 5:15.  Please pick up your children promptly after class.  There is a fee of $25 for picking up children more than 15 minutes after our last class.

What is the Class Drop Policy?

Students may drop a class with no penalty anytime between signing up for the class until the first 2 weeks of the class.  After 2 weeks of class, students that drop a class for reasons other than a medical condition will still be responsible for the entire semester’s class payments.   As soon as you sign up for a class you are committing to the material fee for that class.

What if I have a suggestion or complaint?

Please feel free to talk to any of the HuckleBerry teachers about suggestions for improvements.   You can reach Stephanie at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to voice any concerns, or you may drop a note in the Checks & Suggestions Box that will always be at the front desk by the sign in sheets.

What if I don’t understand my invoice, or I don’t get one?

Please tell the person at the front desk asap if you are not receiving a monthly invoice and you will be paying cash for some of your classes. We have a lot to figure out with invoices with lots of changes to keep track of, and sometimes things will fall through the cracks.   Please help us improve this by letting us know if you thought you would be getting an invoice but you’re not.     In response to several requests, we have simplified out payment policies to divide the price of the class into 4 equal installments.  In the fall these will be due by the 10th of Sept, Oct, Nov and Jan, and in the Spring they will be due by the 10th of Feb, Mar, Apr and May.

When are payments due?

Payments are due on the 1st of each month and are subject to a late fee of $25 if received after the 10th of the month.    Payments may be made at the Learning Center or by sending them to:

HuckleBerry Center for Creative Learning

24943 Greensbrier Drive, Stevenson Ranch, CA  91381

Parents are responsible for bills that their charter does not pay.  Any collection fees will be assessed if this becomes necessary.  Please understand that we are a very small center.   When invoices are not paid on time, it has a very negative effect on the entire center.

Carpooling

HuckleBerry cannot accept responsibility for carpools.  However, we provide a “Carpool Connection List” where parents can look for other parents that may be interested in carpooling.  This list will be left at the Front Desk.  People looking for carpools can check the list each week looking for matches.

Cell Phones / Internet Usage:

Cell phones are allowed at HuckleBerry, but we ask that all students turn them off while in class.

Discipline Policy

HuckleBerry adheres to a Discipline Policy that is on our website.  Parents are asked to review this with their children.   This policy will be reviewed in EVERY class the first week of HuckleBerry, so your child may be introduced to this policy more than once!
