We welcome you to an opportunity to individually design your child’s education.
iDEAcademy is a nonsectarian Private School Satellite Program (PSP) that provides students and their families with the flexibility and the support necessary to design their own education based on their family values and their student’s goals. There are many ways to define what a great education looks like. At iDEAcademy, we partner with our families to create a unique plan of education for each child, and then help to provide the classes and experiences that will fulfill that plan. iDEAcademy is in partnership with HuckleBerry Center for Creative Learning, but is a wholly separate entity. The Learning Center can be used for classes and other opportunities if the student wishes to do this, but it is not required.
To help create an individualized educational plan for all of our new families, new students will complete an online Learning Style Assessment. This fun to take assessment will enable you and your child to truly understand how learning happens best for your child. Equally important to knowing your child’s learning style is defining your family’s philosophy on education. Each family values different aspects of education, and being very clear on this is the first step to designing your child’s education. Once the Learning Style Assessment is complete, we will work with you to design your child’s education.
Home Schooling in High School can be difficult for a variety of reasons; from the need for academically advanced subjects to social needs, to making decisions about the future. To help design the high school education, we also include an online Career Planning Assessment for our students where they will indicate their preferences of what they like to do and how they like to do it. Our kids will live longer, and therefore work longer, than any previous generation. We want their high school years to help prepare them for careers that suit who they are and what they enjoy doing. The Learning Styles Assessment and Career Assessment are fun to take, but will also help our families talk about high school goals, any college goals, and how best to design the high school experience. Once we have these two assessments, we are ready to start to figure out short term and long term goals for high school, and then how best to achieve these goals. iDEAcademy students are also welcome to enjoy our entire suite of services in our Teen Program designed for kids ages 13+, including ASB, Social Events, Classes at our Learning Center, Life Skills seminars, Digital Portfolio Creation sessions, Teen Book Club, and much more. Please see our list of what is included when you become an iDEAcademy student!
Please note that iDEAcademy is not a WASC accredited program, and will not be seeking accreditation. Because we believe that grades and test scores do not fully define a student’s education, we will only aid families in providing these if requested. We will however be providing monthly digital portfolio sessions for all iDEAcademy and HuckleBerry Center for Creative Learning teens where students will begin to create a portfolio that can be accessed online by family, college advisors and admittance committees and hiring managers. We believe that these portfolios will more fully explore what the student has experienced and achieved in their high school years.
