This month, we're focusing on Tiffany Chang, a multi-talented student who always has a smile to accompany her enthusiasm for learning. Recently, Elizabeth Scott was able to ask Tiffany a few questions. Let's learn a little more about her:
1) How long have you attended classes at HuckleBerry?
"I came to HuckleBerry in the second semester of 2009, when I was in third grade."
2) What are your hopes and plans for the future?
"I want to get into a good college because I will have to get into medical school someday, so I can be a heart surgeon. HuckleBerry will help me to prepare for that."
3) How have classes at Huckleberry helped you to prepare for your future goals?
"Last semester, I took a class with Maitress, and it was a science class, and I remember one time I was really excited because we got to dissect a squid. I think that really did prepare me because it taught me to cut really neatly--I want to be a heart surgeon when I grow up."
4) What piece of advice would you give to other students?
"Basically, sometimes you have to do things that are boring because there's no way out. Everything can't always be fun. But if you work hard, it usually gets fun later."
5) If you could teach any new class at HuckleBerry, what would you teach? What was your favorite class and why?
"I would teach any science class. I like science. Or maybe I'd do a literature class, because I like books. Or I'd do a dissection class where each week we'd focus on a different animal and learn about all the different parts."
6) What was your favorite class and why?
"Last semester I took a writing class with Holly Van Houten. We wrote novels, and it was really, really satisfying to create a novel and put it on paper. I'd always meant to write a novel, but I just didn't get around to it. But this class forced me to do it, and it really wasn't that hard! Before, 200 pages seemed like a lot, but after the class, it seemed like nothing."
7) What do you like most about HuckleBerry Creative Learning Center?
"There really aren't that many kids in each class. In public school, there's at least 20 kids in a class, but at HuckleBerry, if you need help in a class, the teacher can always help you. Different kids have different ways of learning, either by listening, or by looking at things, for example. The teachers at HuckleBerry are really good at being able to tell how kids learn, and teaching them the way they learn best."
8) What is your favorite movie?
"I like the movie Despicable Me--it was really funny. But it wasn't too silly, and it did have a lesson, too."
9) If you could be any animal, which would you be?
"I think it would be interesting to see the world through a bird's eye, because it would be really fun flying. Also, I have a pet bunny, and I think it would be really fun to see things how a bunny sees things, because they're really small."
10) What's your favorite music?
"It's funny--most of the singers I like are dead! Celene Dion is pretty much the only singer i like who's still alive. I like Karen Carpenter, and I also like opera music."
11) What's something interesting that people may not know about you?
"I don't suppose a lot of people except my closest friends think I want to be a heart surgeon. Since I love books so much, people probably assume I want to be a writer."

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Ryan Balandran
This month, we're focusing on a student who recently was awarded First Place in the 2010 Jack Horkheimer/Smith Award for exceptional service in Astronomy!
This month's Spotlight Student is Jessi Sande, who is the daughter of a Huck teacher (Penny Sande), has been attending HuckleBerry for years, has worked as a volunteer, and has been an inspiration to many of us at HuckleBerry. She always has a smile, a kind word, or a helping hand for adults and children of all ages at HuckleBerry.
